Several years ago, the administration and staff at Chestatee wanted to know how we could build meaningful & valuable relationships with our students while incorporating learning that may not appear in the curriculum or standards. This became evident in our mission statement & beliefs: MISSION The mission of Chestatee is to enlighten, empower, and equip students to become productive, successful citizens with the ability and desire to positively impact our local and global community. BELIEFS Students benefit equally from lasting, positive relationships and academic curriculum. Students should be challenged and encouraged to take ownership of the person they are while giving and being their best every day. School should be a place that is safe and welcoming to everyone, where ALL desire to learn and be engaged members of society. We use our mission and our beliefs to drive the learning and curriculum that goes into our advisement program. Each grade level focuses on a different theme from our school creed, The War Eagle Way. 9th Grade: CHARACTER All of our advisement lessons are about the soft skills that center around character education (ethics, integrity, personal responsibility) and important 21st century skills like collaboration & critical thinking. These skills are very important to a student's success in school and their success in the work force. 10th Grade: COURAGE All of our advisement lessons are focused on how our students can have the courage to impact our community by serving and giving back to others. Students learn about good citizenship, global awareness, civic literacy, and communication skills. All of these skills are essential in a 21st century education & will help them learn how to be active citizens in our communities. 11th Grade: COMMITMENT All of our advisement lessons focus on our students' commitment to their futures, whether they are planning to attend a technical school, a four year college, enlist in the military, or join the work force. We have made a commitment to help our students become life ready and we want to prepare them for anything they may face in the future. 12th Grade's program is called CATALYST: a force that ignites a change. Our hope for our seniors is that everything they have learned at Chestatee over the past four years will prepare them to make positive changes in their communities long after they have received their diplomas. We include lessons about college, career choices, financial literacy, decision making, and more.
