Provide the students the following list:
Have the students create an example of each of these and how community service can be evident through all 10 of these.
- Make an impact: Looking to make a real, lasting difference in this world? Unlike other aspects of life you may not be able to control, volunteering allows you to choose where and how to make a difference. It’s easy to get inspired with a cause you truly care about—and it’s rewarding to see your direct impact.
- Strengthen communities: From cleaning up a street to reading to kids at the local library, you can enhance your own life by improving the areas where you work, live and play. A strong community with a high quality of life means safer, healthier lives for you and those around you.
- Meet others: Looking to broaden your network or find others with similar interests? Volunteering is a great outlet for meeting others. A local club or organization can put you face-to-face with people right in your community—plus, it’s easy to bond over a shared passion. You can create lasting friendships with those you may not have otherwise met in your day-to-day grind.
- Improve your health: Yes! Volunteering is actually good for you. Studies have shown that volunteering makes people feel physically healthier, manage chronic health conditions and lower stress!
- Take the lead: Often what a great effort needs most is a great leader. If you see a cause that needs a push or a group that needs a head—take the lead! Many find leadership rewarding in itself because of the opportunity to share their passion, value and inspiration with others. When you take a leadership role, you also have the ability shape the world around you in the ways you choose.
- Share expertise: Everyone has a skill or experience from which someone else can benefit. If you aren’t putting your talents to their best use in your everyday life (or even if you are!), volunteering can be a prime way to share. Get out in your community and put your skills—from teaching to sewing—toward helping others. You may be surprised at how your own abilities sharpen when you share your knowledge.
- Improve skills—or learn new ones: Want to learn basic carpentry, improve your cooking or discover how something works? Classes and courses can come at a cost—but volunteering is free! Why not begin your learning at no charge with an organization or opportunity where you can learn by doing?
- Up your resume ante: Considering a career shift? Want to try out a new field before taking the leap? A volunteering gig can be a perfect way to fill a knowledge or employment gap. It can also be a valuable addition to a resume if you’re applying to a new job or graduate school program.
- Find new opportunities: Doors open when you volunteer. You can widen your social network, discover an organization in your community or finally talk to the person you always see on the bus! Who knows: You may even stumble across your dream job by meeting your future colleague or next job reference.
- Because it just feels good: We thought it was worth a mention!
Finally, Show students an example of the MYAP feature (this is what Mrs. Cantrell showed everyone during planning period meetings). This will help prepare students for registration which begins next week.

Supplies needed:
PSAT Score Sheets (in your box)
Agenda:
*Distribute the PSAT Score Reports
*There is handout inside the test booklet with the report. Have the students take out their score reports and let them know that they have an access code on the front and back of their report. This is used to get their full report online and a more in depth explanation of their results. The students should look over their reports and teachers should encourage them to follow the steps on the handout to link their accounts with Khan Academy (if you have Chromebooks or computers you can do this in class). This will allow them to personalize their practice for the SAT.
*Refer any questions that they can't answer to Michele White and she will be happy to go over them with the students.
*Please let students know that Commit to the C is Thursday, March 23rd. The sophomore class goes out to work in the community at various organizations (like the elementary schools, the Humane Society, INK, etc.) We will have more information at the next advisement.

This month, we are going to start our first big community “give back” program - and you guys are going to choose what organization we want to support. We are going to collect donations for an organization you guys choose, then we will have a school-wide assembly to see how much we collected! Some organizations you may wish to consider:

- Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Coat Drive -- collect new or gently used coats to provide warmth to those less fortunate
- Toys/Food for animal shelter -- The Hall County Animal Shelter is a nonprofit shelter. Your generous donations are appreciated and used to provide the best care for Hall County's unwanted pets. You will have a roster for your advisement and an answer sheet for all students in your group who will be testing. Names have already been completed either with a sticker or bubbled in. (There will be a few students who will not test and they are crossed off of your roster). Please distribute the appropriate answer sheet to each student and make sure they have a #2 pencil to complete today’s questions.
Read aloud all the directions in the scripts reading slowly enough to give students time to fill in their identifying information. Pause wherever three dots (…) appear, to allow students time to follow instructions. Do not deviate from these directions or answer any questions regarding the content of the test.
Some student information has already been bubbled or applied with a label. The goal today is to fill out pages 2 and 3 which include boxes 2 through 7d.
Please collect all answer sheets and scripts and return to counseling office after Advisement with your roster.
GIVE EACH STUDENT A STUDENT GUIDE AND LET THEM KNOW IT CONTAINS A FULL LENGTH PRACTICE TEST TO HELP PREPARE FOR THE PSAT. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!
We have also included a list of students who are currently failing a class or classes in your box. Please try to meet with those students today and help get them on the right track.
